Central Baptist Church Choir New Album to feat
The Nelons

in early 2023, the new album He Is by the Central Baptist Church Choir of Dunn, North Carolina, which features many of their friends in gospel music with whom they have shared the stage for decades, will be released. This special recording features the voices of The Nelons, Suzanne Taylor Hise, The Ben Rochester Family, Soul’d Out, The Mylon Hayes Family, Roy Harris, and The Whisnants. This is “a dream project we’ve been putting together for the past few years,” according to Worship Pastor Darren Hughes. We are humbled by these artists’ willingness to contribute to this recording! He Is will be available on streaming services later this year and will be available on CD and USB drives on January 6, 2023.
Ben Rochester was hired as the vocal producer after Hughes and Matthew Lawson recorded the music at Nashville’s Daywind Studios. Together with Andrew Peterson’s Is He Worthy, original songs like “The Way,” “The Truth,” “The Life,” and “Come Expecting,” as well as some classics like “I’ve Never Been Sorry” and more obscure hymn “The Great Physician,” flow thematically to highlight who God is to the listener. Anyone, regardless of age, can receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our intentionally multigenerational church, which welcomes children, millennials, grandparents, and everyone in between to worship God, is reflected in this record. “We even included our kid’s choir on a song,” Hughes continues. In advance of He Is, the CBC Choir has made Come Expecting and a Christmas EP available on streaming services.
The Central Baptist Church Choir has been singing God’s praises in a variety of styles week after week in church services, events, concerts, and radio since the middle of the 1980s. They have a unique opportunity to spread the Gospel both locally and internationally because they have performed alongside Greater Vision, Anne Wilson, Karen Peck & New River, The Nelons, and The Mylon Hayes Family, among others.

Beverley Knight has said that implicit racism might’ve stunted her success in the music industry.
Speaking to HELLO! about her career, the 46-year-old suggested her skin was “maybe too dark”, adding: “It was easier to market someone who was much lighter, with more ‘European’ features.”
Knight, whose music career began when she was aged 21, recalled feeling like a “square peg in a round hole” in the music industry, which she remembers as being full of “young white lads playing guitars, looking at their shoes” when she entered the business.
The singer added: “I’ve always been an optimistic, happy, and driven person, and I was very secure about myself in my music.
“But I was a boffin. And I was insecure about how I looked.”

Knight remembers putting on weight in her mid-20s, which she says made her feel “sluggish” and “terrible” about her appearance.
“I felt I had all the things that were needed – strong music and vocals – except what a star was meant to look like,” she added.

“If people try to tell you what you should be doing, at this age, you can slap them down very quickly,” she said. “There’s a respect that’s naturally afforded to you.”MORE ABOUT
